Parents shouldn't discuss their specific finances with their children. Nor should one parent ever put down the other to the child. No matter what either parent did that may have ended the relationship, children should not be told the circumstances–they're CHILDREN! And parents shouldn't play games like "well, I might have had enough money to get you _______ if your no good mom/dad would have paid child support this month."
And yes, there are parents who misappropriate child support money. But the money should not be given directly to the child. That money also goes to pay the mortgage for the house the child lives in, the car the child is driven around in, the sports the child plays, the clothes the child wears. To give it to the child would also be a misappropriation.

My parents had 50/50 custody of the kids after their divorce. We lived one month with dad, then one month with mom. My dad still had to pay child support to my mom to help even out their incomes. When we were with my dad, if we asked for anything like new shoes or new clothes we had to hear: "that's what I pay child support for, have your mom get you that stuff." My mom never said an unkind word about my dad. And guess what? 20 years later all 3 of us kids think my mom did a far better job at parenting than my dad, even though he wasn't a "dead beat" per se because he always paid his support on time.

I was living in Reno going to the Reno VA trying to get my knees fixed. Finally gave up and moved to Arizona to try there. The illegal aliens were building five of the subdivisions going up while the Americans were building only two. About the same thing was happening in Phoenix too. It is correct to say a lot of the homes now on the market were built by illegal aliens while George Bush said… uuuum.
They are going home now. The welfare is running out and so are the jobs. There are no significant new home starts, and the unemployment lines with American Workers is going to get very long now. They are suggesting we won't see the top of the unemployment for another year, and that it will be two years before the number is back down to 8% where it may stay for a very long time.
We need a national ballot initiative or we will lose control of this government.
It's great that you're looking at getting health insurance. If you can afford it (which you should be able to above the poverty line!) it can do wonders. As you say, you are a non smoker and will co-pay for doctors visits which certainly helps.

Hope I was of some help, and good luck finding the right one! Just remember to get lots of quotes and check the fine print! Also, the ones which give you extra 'benefits' like physio and stuff, which you may be unlikely to use, tend to be more expensive so avoid those also if you're unlikely to use them.

I may be wrong but this may be one of those scams where you issue payroll checks or pay for expenses from your account which really go back to the scammers. You are then never reimbursed for the payments. My big question is why do they need you?
