Osteoporosis is usually thought of as a “woman’s disease” but according to an article in USA Today approximately one in five men are affected by it, too (Your Health).
Osteoporosis is another name for bone density loss. It is estimated that one half of all women will suffer bone loss of the period of a life time. While osteoporosis can be deadly in women it is also dangerous for men.
“Six percent of all men over 50 are destined to break a hip, says the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. And studies show that when they do, they are more likely than women to die or require long-term care.” (Ibid.)
What Causes Osteoporosis?
The causes of osteoporosis are believed to be lowered hormones of estrogen and testosterone in both women and men, along with nutritional and dietary factors.
According to the National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements, “Some evidence suggests that magnesium deficiency may be an additional risk factor for postmenopausal osteoporosis. This may be due to the fact that magnesium alters calcium metabolism and the hormones that regulate calcium. Several human studies have suggested that magnesium supplementation may improve bone mineral density to a greater degree than a lower magnesium intake. Diets that provide recommended levels of magnesium are beneficial for bone health (Kelly’s World Famous).”
As Americans, our diets are insufficient. Our soil has been depleted by modern farming methods and so, even the best diet does not supply all the nutrients we need and the necessary trace minerals from the soil.
What are the costs of Osteoporosis?
The total annual medical bill for fractures due to osteoporosis is around “$30 billion” (Ibid.). This figure does not account for the costs of care for those who are permanently incapacitated. And, it is not possible to put a monetary figure on the cost of death caused as a result of osteoporosis.
What Should You Do?
To protect the health of the bones and health, in general, it is wise to avoid excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and the drinking of sodas. Pharmaceutical medications can damage the bones, as well.
Get plenty of exercise. Stronger muscles help support the bones and overall health.
Supplement your diet with a balance of magnesium, calcium and Vitamin D like Peter Gillham’s Osteo Calm. Magnesium is required for over 300 of the body’s biochemical processes. Without Magnesium, your body cannot convert Calcium and Vitamin D into bone tissue.

Introduction – Vox-pops from the case studies. Dr. Lefever, Director of the Promis Recovery Centre and a recovering addict himself explodes the myth that all addicts are losers and instead describes addiction as a widespread problem ‘under recognised and under reported’. He goes on to describe what addiction is and how it feels. He is the voice of authority throughout the programme, putting each therapy into context. Case Study 1 – We hear from Katie who developed an addiction to cannabis over a number of years. Case Study 2 – Tatiana Wilson discovered that she had a wheat addiction when she went to see Dr Andrew Strigner. Case Study 3 – The final case study in this programme is George Lang.

Many presidents before talked to school kids and it was all ok for you guys who are complaining right now. So much hypocrisy in america. Sickens me.
I do know people who have been denied health care because of lack of insurance. I do know people who do not have health insurance by choice and people who do not have health insurance by circumstances. I do know people who have lost insurance coverage because of job loss. I do know people who have been unable to get new coverage because of preexisting conditions. I do know people who have been put in extreme financial difficulty by staggering medical bills.
I have lived in other countries, and do not believe health insurance is as accessible in the US as it is elsewhere. In some cases, the cost of care itself makes it inaccessible, even with insurance.
"Bankrupting the nation" is indeed a big concern. A new health bill will certainly increase the burden on the treasury, which will have to be made up in some other way. On the other hand, if the current forecast is accurate, the yearly cost would be just a fraction of what the US spends in the various wars it is fighting. There did not seem to be a big problem in coming up with unbudgeted items like $300 billion/yr for these wars, so, $50 billion/yr for health care should be hard to swallow but manageable. We forget that we spend already over $1 trillion/yr in health care.
We will have to see what the final bill looks like. For now, most of the provisions would be an improvement for me and my family.
Good work!
@id0stuff o i see. well keep up the good work.
What do you want to bet that Obama will get it passed whether we like it or not? Then look out because if he thinks people are angry now, he hasn't seen anything.
Because no matter what, any way you slice it, the only solution is going to be government intervention.
The Democrats supported the direct route… Single payer insurance.
Because of their "small government mantra" Republicans are forced to obstruct that process and force the Democrats to use the "evolutionary approach" with a convoluted series of bills that will eventually end up in the same place, but only after the public has been exhausted by years of bureaucratic snafus and red tape.
By then the Republicans will have morphed their position so that universal health care is no longer socialist, but rather "efficient", and will blame the Democrats for taking so long to come up with a practical solution.
@Reignunlimited what are you talking about, it’s so clean here, it can get way worse as you can see in this video /watch?v=d2zZXSPG73Q
@iiMoNST3RHD i use it for cardio like tire hammering, or I use it as a replacement for a maceball
When you cut and paste, at least eliminate non-existing references. The "(see table 1)" is a dead give away.
To answer your question, you must first realize that we are already paying for the uninsured. Either the government pays through medicaid or the service provider incorporates the loss into its costs, which consumers ultimately pay for.
By reducing costs overall, the costs for uninsured are reduced.
Today, the uninsured only seek medical attention when their condition becomes very severe and life-threatening. Treatment of conditions in these states is very expensive. It is a fact that preventative care is significantly less expensive to treat. Providing free preventative care will utlimately result in tremendous savings and not to mention a healthier society. These savings were not considered in the CBO report.
Elimination of waste and fraud.
Allow service providers to competitively bid on Medicare and Medicaid. Estimated savings: 177 billion over ten years.
Taxes on heatlh care annual premiums that exceed $27,500. If your health care premiums are 27,600, then you will be taxed on 100.
Close the social security tax loophole for persons earning more than $200,000. As it is, persons do not pay social security taxes on capital gains and dividends. At the same time, these persons can receive SS benefits. This inequity is addressed.
Don't be afraid, my son. Just join us in the 21st Century.
Respect!
