Osteoporosis is usually thought of as a “woman’s disease” but according to an article in USA Today approximately one in five men are affected by it, too (Your Health).

Osteoporosis is another name for bone density loss. It is estimated that one half of all women will suffer bone loss of the period of a life time. While osteoporosis can be deadly in women it is also dangerous for men.

“Six percent of all men over 50 are destined to break a hip, says the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. And studies show that when they do, they are more likely than women to die or require long-term care.” (Ibid.)

What Causes Osteoporosis?

The causes of osteoporosis are believed to be lowered hormones of estrogen and testosterone in both women and men, along with nutritional and dietary factors.

According to the National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements, “Some evidence suggests that magnesium deficiency may be an additional risk factor for postmenopausal osteoporosis. This may be due to the fact that magnesium alters calcium metabolism and the hormones that regulate calcium. Several human studies have suggested that magnesium supplementation may improve bone mineral density to a greater degree than a lower magnesium intake. Diets that provide recommended levels of magnesium are beneficial for bone health (Kelly’s World Famous).”

As Americans, our diets are insufficient. Our soil has been depleted by modern farming methods and so, even the best diet does not supply all the nutrients we need and the necessary trace minerals from the soil.

What are the costs of Osteoporosis?

The total annual medical bill for fractures due to osteoporosis is around “$30 billion” (Ibid.). This figure does not account for the costs of care for those who are permanently incapacitated. And, it is not possible to put a monetary figure on the cost of death caused as a result of osteoporosis.

What Should You Do?

To protect the health of the bones and health, in general, it is wise to avoid excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and the drinking of sodas. Pharmaceutical medications can damage the bones, as well.

Get plenty of exercise. Stronger muscles help support the bones and overall health.

Supplement your diet with a balance of magnesium, calcium and Vitamin D like Peter Gillham’s Osteo Calm. Magnesium is required for over 300 of the body’s biochemical processes. Without Magnesium, your body cannot convert Calcium and Vitamin D into bone tissue.

Introduction – Vox-pops from the case studies. Dr. Robert Jacobs, a Naturopath and cancer expert asks why is that we get particular types of cancer and the relevance of pollutants and free radicals. Later in the programme he uses a diagram to explain the chain of events which need to happen before cancer can occur as part of the first case history. Case Study 1 – Ted was experiencing problems with his prostate and yet, when he went to his GP, was told there was nothing to worry about. Case Study 2 – Our second case study, Joyce, also used complementary therapy. Case Study 3 – Helena had also developed breast cancer five years ago. Case Study 4 – Anthroposophical Medicine.

If you really want to take care of your hair, wash it regularly in a good salon shampoo, not the supermarket shelf stuff, and stay away from dryers.

I got you man…i've been working with these things following and they have helped me get healthier and also build some muscle tone…a really good home workout is p90x, it starts out a little tough, but the beauty of it is that you pause the dvd's if you need a break. As for the diet part, eat about 5 to 6 small meals a day consisting of lots of vegetables, fruits, and meat (try to eat meat with high protein quality). Stay away from the slow digesting carbs as much as you can like white breads, rices, and pastas. And drink LOTS of water. If you can stick pretty close to those lines, or as close as you possibly can, then you should see the fat start to melt away from your muscles even if you are already somewhat toned. Not only will eating small meals but many of them be healthy for you, it will trick your body into not being as hungry before the next meal, and it will boost your metabolism like crazy!!!! Hope i could be of help!

if you wear products in your hair like hair spray or gel, you should wash your hair daily. You don't always have to use shampoo, but you should at least rinse it out. Alot of men choose not to use conditioner, but it really is good for your scalp and hair. You can find a good shampoo at the drugstore, use something for normal hair, and grab a conditioner to go with it.

A healthy amount of weight for ANYONE to lose per week is 2 to 3 pounds. If you lose more than that per week, you run the risk of slowing your metabolism. You can boost your metabolism by eating several smaller meals throughout the day. And of course, weight-bearing exercise is a key part to build muscle mass.

The key to good health is a good digestive system, because all disease most likely starts with the digestive system. The digestive systems main function is absorb nutrients and put them into your bloodstream so they can be shipped to the cells in your body. Diarrhea, constipation, stomach ulcers, bad fingernails, pain, low testosterone, low concentration are all symptoms that tell you that you are not getting the right amount of nutrients in your body. You should LISTEN to your body to know how your health is doing. If your not getting brown, snake like poop, that is a sign that you should pay more careful attention to how you eat.

Actually what really determines digestion is:

    1) How well you break foods up with your mouth and saliva
    2. A balanced diet that contains water, fats, proteins, carbs, vitamins, antioxidants, minerals
    3) The type of food and whether the food has a poison or toxin in it
    4) How much you have of one substance per certain time. So it is how fast you eat something. So if you have too much of one substance, it becomes TOXIC. Even water, in excessive amounts per time can be toxic. Too much of a good thing in a certain amount of time can be a bad thing.
    5) How well you mix certain foods with each other.
    6) Good Sleep ( Sleep helps your digestive system work better.
    7) Exercise (Exercise helps your digestive work better)
    8) The amount of food you have stuffed up in your digestive system. It is generally best to eat every 4 hours = 3 meals per day, or 6 SMALL meals per day. But actually, how much you eat per day depends on your weight and your bodily calorie intake, and of course, your digestive system and metabolism, so really, it is different for every person.

After you have absorbed the right NUTRIENTS and FOODS, they need to be shipped to the cells of your body. There are thousands of cells in your body, and so if you do not get the nutrients that these cells need, than these cells will die, and your health will diminish. According to scientific theory, which has a lot of evidence supporting it, the cells in our body need 6 things to survive:

    Water + Oxygen + Organic Molecules + Fats(YES FATS!!!) + Carbohydrates + Protein

These are things that your body MUST get(according to theory though). Fats are NOT an option in the diet. Your body NEEDS FATS! However you should AVOID trans fats, because these are the fats that your body does not have the ability to digest and break down(it lacks an enzyme in order to do so)

The cell has a superimpermeable membrane that allows certain substances in and keeps other substances out. Note that the system is not perfect, and some toxins DO get in. But keep in mind that the cell keeps away the TOXINS, and brings in the NUTRIENTS.

Other things such as Vitamins and Antioxidants and minerals help your digestive system work better. Without antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, your body cannot absorb the nutrients it needs for growth.

It is important to note that NATURE'S foods are NOT NECESSARILY healthier than processed foods. Even Nature itself has its poisons and note that some plants and animals are EVEN MORE toxic that the processed foods that we eat on a daily basis. For example, some foods such as certain wild berry's cannot be eaten. These berries contain toxins that can cause diarrhea, organ failure, and sometimes death. Another instance is the SEEDS in an apple. You can't die from eating one apple's seeds, but if you eat too many seeds, they have known to be toxic to your body. The reason is because there is a substance in there that the apple has evolved with. Its main reason for the toxic seeds is to protect itself from predators. It DOES NOT WANT to be EATEN!!! That's why the apple has evolved.

Another animals meat is another animals poison. This is true because we humans are unable to eat the Death Cap Mushroom, while Rabbits CAN.
