3 Top Advantages of Full Coverage Dental Insurance

With massive unemployment sweeping the nation, it may be next to impossible for families to be able to afford adequate dental care.  Dental work in general tends to be a bit on the expensive.  Even if you suffer the misfortune of losing your job, you may be given the option to continue your Dental Insurance, but you would have the responsibility of making payments on your own.

Actually, Dental Insurance can cost only about $25 a month for one person and anywhere between $65-$100 per month to cover the entire family.  However, Dental Insurance may not be the best option for individuals and their families especially if you get stuck paying for the policy yourself.

Dental Insurance Policies many times have deductibles and a waiting period, which can extent 6-12 months for major dental procedures.  After careful research, I have found an excellent option in place of Dental Insurance.  What I discovered actually provides better coverage and saves you more than a traditional Dental Insurance Policy.

A Dental Plan is not the same as Insurance.  Dental Plans charge consumers any where from $10-$25 per month and provide single coverage as well as covering the entire family.  One plan offered through Avia Dental Plans seems to be the best out of all the plans that I had the opportunity to review.  If you wish to inquire just go to www.aviadental.com.

Avia Dental is offering a special rate of $8 per month for single coverage and about $18 per month for the entire family.  Avis even gives a sample schedule of procedures that are covered by the plan and a price that members can expect to pay.  I was amazed at the extraordinary savings offered with this remarkable plan.

For example, a traditional cleaning and yearly x-rays would normally cost about $100.  With the Avia Plan you would pay about $55-$60 for a cleaning and x-ray, a savings of almost 50%.  In addition, Avia provides a network of participating Dentists in your area that will accept this plan.  After reviewing the list of participating Dentists I must say it gives members a large selection.

If you discover you need major work such as Crowns, with the Avia Plan you would end up pay roughly $550 per tooth as opposed to $1,000 per tooth.  Dental Insurance Plans in some cases only offer up to 30% savings on major work such as Crowns.  This plan is defiantly worth looking into.

If you have been avoiding Dental care for fear of being unable to afford the services, check out the Avia Plan and see what you think.  There are also other plans offered   it is just a matter of doing some research.  Some discount rates may apply to Senior Citizens.

Seniors traditionally have been in an unfortunate position regarding Dental Insurance.  To my surprise, most companies don’t offer Dental Insurance to any one over 65 years of age and it is not considered discrimination.  Dental Plans have no age restrictions or limitations and there seem to be no hidden charges.

Back to the basics — you need to check with the company the dental insurance is through – that's step #1. Preventative treatments include cleanings, x-rays – things to prevent major problems down the road. Major treatments would also have to be defined by the insurance company – an example would be a root canal, crown, bridge, etc (most of which I'm sure you don't need if you're young and have taken good care of your teeth). A $225 deductible means that the first $225 of any/all treatments (new patient exams, x-rays, cleanings) would have to be paid by YOU — after you've paid out $225 out of your own pocket then the insurance will kick in a certain percentage! Good luck!! Read carefully between the lines and if it sounds too good to be true – it usually is!

people are so quick to complain, anyone heard about savings accounts? how about oral hygiene which can prevent all the cavities. It’s not just about money, it’s about education and the responsibility. I would hate to see another kid crying with cavity because his/her parents are ignorant. I took care of my children and their health and no i’m not even close to being rich!!!

I just spent $54,000 on my teeth for a full mouth smile makeover, and that was the cheapest uninsured quote I could find in Oregon!
There’s no economic depression in dentistry, they are raping the uninsured like never before.
If you want to get rich in a bad economy, become an oral surgeon specializing in dental implants, you’ll be rich within months like my dentist, he’s only 29 yrs old and already owns a 2.4 million home, 3 Mercedes Benz and flies to his 2nd home in Bermuda 4 times per year…

You have five options with dental.

    1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling and X-ray will cost you less without insurance.

    2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Dentalschools.html

    3. Insurance – Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month per person. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 – $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example – average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With insurance you pay $460 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage – you can use any dentist with most plans.

    4. Discount plans – Cost – $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example – average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With discount plans you pay around $827. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm concerning these plans.

    5. Fee for Service discount plans – Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example – average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404.

I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?locationid=20349 specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

    Hi

Dental insurance as the name suggest covers only dental related procedures. It depends on the policy sometimes it is supplemental to health insurance in general or just as a stand alone policy.

all these people are white and can’t afford the dentist?? what ever happened to the “superior” race everyone keeps talking about? not being able to afford something as simple as this shows you clearly have problems.

How exactly does dental insurance help? In my opinion, it is a cross between a ponzie scheme and snake oil. You pay a monthly premium and supposedly get a lower price on dental costs. The dentist still has to make a profit, so he just increases all costs to compensate for any negotiated prices with insurance companies. The dentist accepts insurance in the hope that it will bring business to him or the fear that he will lose business of people that have insurance that he does not accept. The insurance company profits. The one who pays for the insurance company's profits and for the dentist's profits is you the customer.
The original intent of insurance in general had more to do with the name than what it has become today. People would insure something the same way they could hedge their bets. It guarantees against a total loss but also guarantees against the biggest win. Today, people try to use it like a substitute payment plan. It is actually more expensive that way. Just negotiate with cash for your dental services and you will get more for your money.

As for the cost, it could be $10/month… it just depends on who you buy from and the plan you choose. Just keep in mind, you are buying a service, not saving anything. It will cost you more in the long run.

Actually, the only time the copays are so low for health insurance is when you're dealing with those high-dollar plans provided by a lot of employers. (At least those are the types of plans that were provided be employers in the past; that's changing significantly because of the cost involved.) Trust me, these are FAR from the "norm."

As for dental insurance, the fact is that there are nearly as many organized networks for dental providers as there are for medical providers (where belonging to as many networks as possible is the best way to ensure you keep new clients coming in to your practice.) Dental insurance, by comparison to what you pay for medical coverage (particularly of the variety you mention) is also CHEAP. And I don't know very many people who would pay triple the price for dental insurance so they could get the $10 copay. In the end, it's really that simple.

Write a polite letter of complaint to the Commissioner of Insurance for your state – at your state capital. Copy to your insurance company's Vice President of Health Insurance Claims – or some similar person. The insurance company is required to respond to the commissioner within 30 days. Every day after 30 that they are late, costs them $. You should get a prompt response. But, remember to be polite. You will still have the same insurance company. Most claim adjusters are over worked but real people.
